November 2020

Dear York Central School Community,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the Interim Elementary Principal.  I will be serving as interim until the next Elementary Principal is appointed.  I feel that I am a caring educator with extensive experience as a teacher and school principal.  As a resident of Wyoming County, I was a teacher and supervisor at Erie II and Erie I BOCES.  My experience began in the special education area before serving as an Elementary Principal at Alden Central School for thirty years.  Since my retirement several years ago, I have been fortunate to serve as an Interim Elementary Principal at nearby Warsaw, Perry and Alexander Elementary Schools, as well as Maryvale and Lancaster Schools.

My primary goals are to:

  1. Continue quality instruction and activities.
  2. Continue to model and reinforce positive behavior expectations for our students, faculty and staff.
  3. Recognize and appreciate the school based resources and support available at York Central.
  4. Continue to offer and provide a safe learning environment for everyone.
  5. Have fun as well as enjoy time with the students, faculty, staff and supportive families every school day.

During my visit last week, everyone was very welcoming and gracious!  I plan to be very available and visible during my time at your school and community.  Please feel free to contact me and introduce yourself in the days and weeks ahead.  Just look for the older gray headed guy with a smile under his mask.  Thank you in advance for connecting your school and students with me.

Sincerely, Tom Lyons
