What brings you joy?
Our students and staff have been sharing what bring them joy.
They pinned them to a JOY board, which is located in a central hallway where many students and staff pass by each day.
We are enjoying reading their responses and we think you will too!
We wish to thank three people who really bring us joy!
Elementary School office secretary Mrs. Koch, and students Audrey and Lily decorated the tree and created the JOY board. Thank you! You all bring us joy!
York CS sparkles and shines!
We are celebrating 12 days of holiday cheer and Tuesday was sparkly and bright day - we wore something shiny, bright or sparkly.
York CS students and staff really do shine bright in so many ways!
York Central School alumna Johanna Knickerbocker (YCS Class of 2022) recently was recognized for completing Elmira College's Soaring Higher Program.
Read the Elmira College press release below:
Johanna Knickerbocker of Linwood was among 11 students to be recognized at the Soaring Higher Student Leadership Award Ceremony. Knickerbocker and 10 other students made up the third cohort to complete the leadership program since it launched in the fall of 2022.
Students apply and are selected to attend the program facilitated by Dr. Elizabeth Lambert, Vice President of Campus Life and Dean of Students, Larry Parker, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Ytzel Flores Cristiansen, Assistant Dean of Students. The content for the program is based on the book, "The Student Leadership Challenge: Five Practices For Becoming an Exemplary Leader" by James Kouzes and Barry Posner.
Throughout the 10-week program, students participated in individual and group activities that uncovered insights into their strengths and weaknesses. They learned to use their self-knowledge, such as identifying their values, to make better choices. Every other week, they listened to a new guest speaker about what they've learned as leaders.
Just prior to the Awards Ceremony, the Soaring Leaders presented multi-year plans they hope to achieve. The presentations provided the students an opportunity to practice their newly learned skills and take their first steps as leaders.
Congratulations Johanna - Once a Golden Knight, Always a Golden Knight!

Students in Mr. Schneider's AP U.S. History class use various methods of reviewing before a test. On this day, the students created idea webs to help them review what they've learned about Andrew Jackson. Each piece of the web contained a fact about his life and career as seventh President of the United States.
Hats off to our Elementary School students who were recognized in November for displaying good citizenship. The students were honored at the December 1, 2023, Friday morning assembly.
Congratulations to the citizenship award winners!
Mad about Plaid in UPK!
Mrs. Cunningham's pre-k students are looking their best in their holiday plaids!
Deputy Becky Rice-Kane delivered a Top Secret message to Mrs. Streb's first grade class!
The students were given a mission to do anything and everything it takes to solve and check tough words in their books.
Using the Units of Study in Reading, BLAST Foundations, and help from Rasheed, we will earn our Word Detectives Badges to become stronger readers and build strong literacy skills.
Thank you Deputy Kane for helping us sharpen our investigation skills, as well!
Congratulations to all of the York CSD Fall Athletic Teams on being named Scholar Athlete Teams! Way to go Golden Knights!
